Lik N2 Ice Cream

[05/17/16] Lik N2 is Vancouver’s first liquid nitrogen icecream shop, and they’re having their soft opening right now. Until Friday, it’s 20% off, and I came here yesterday with 3 of my friends.

We each ordered a different flavour of their Signature Cups ($7.50), which have preset flavour combinations, but they sell waffle cones and customizable icecream flavours and toppings as well. Sorbet is another option here.

The Vietnamese Coffee comes with Vietnamnese coffee icecream, oreo crumbs, whipped cream, and a condensed milk syringe. The coffee was mild but with a hint of sweetness, and the condensed milk resembles what is used in the original drink. (4/5)

The Matcha Azuki has matcha icecream, azuki red beans, mochi and a matcha ganache syringe. The matcha icecream is very rich here, but I that the syrup comes with a weird aftertaste.. (4/5)

Cookie Monster consists of their cookie crumb icecream, an entire chocolate chip cookie and a chocolate syringe. The chocolate syrup has a good balance of bittersweetness, but the cookie icecream didn’t have a prominent cookie flavour. (3/5)

For myself, I tried the Strawberry Cheesecake, which has strawberry icecream, cheesecake bites, strawberry syringe and originally whipped cream, which I omitted in my order. I didn’t really like this flavour as I found the strawberry flavour very artificial. I did like the strawberry syringe though, which was a tangy coulis. (3/5)

The icecream consistency is surprisingly good- very smooth and creamy. However, it does melt really quickly!

Overall, this was a cool experience! Despite the higher price, the use of liquid nitrogen for icecream is definitely new here, and I would recommend seeing it for yourself. The syringe they have for syrup is also an innovative idea. However, since the icecream is made to order, the wait can be long when there’s a line of customers, which was the case for us yesterday.

{1- Terrible :: 2- Poor :: 3- Average :: 4- Good :: 5- Excellent}

Food: 3.5/5 | Service: 3/5 | Value: 3/5 | Ambiance: 4/5

Overall: 3.5/5

  1. That is honestly so cool. I wish I was there to try it out as well! It looks sort of like a cross between frozen yogurt and gelato. Soooooo, where’s that amazing/cool/radical news that we were promised?! 😉
