[03/26/16] Today, my best brunch buddy Naomi brought me to The Acorn for the mandatory weekend brunch (not that the day of the week mattered anyways).
Walking in, there are some window seats and a large open bar and there are more tables available on the side. The earthy tones of the furniture and green plants all around capture the name of the restaurant.
The staff are very welcoming, and gave us different options to our seatings. It was bright and sunny out today, so we decided to sit in the shadier area inside.
The Acorn serves dinner and weekend brunches, focusing on plant based cuisines with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. They also have an extensive menu of drinks, but we just went with water. Naomi got the fancy sparkling water with no additional charge, while I just had regular still water.
Their menus are seasonal and they feature fresh, local ingredients in their dishes.
Complementary Bread & Butter
Our waitress asked us if we had any food restrictions or allergies, which we thought was a funny question at first because their menu were clearly labelled with such options. However, we understood why when she later returned with a plate of sourdough toasts and chive butter as a starter. I noticed that other tables had taro chips and dip as an alternative.
The toast was crusty but cottony soft inside. Their special butter for this month is a chive spiced butter, which was very interesting. You can see different herbs in the swirl of butter, and there are pops of citrus as well. It was very light, and went well with the bread.
