Cheked off my list! (Pt. I/ III)

I’m just too eager to launch this blog to wait until my next restaurant visit.. so I’ve compiled a couple of places that I’ve been to and wanted to share with you guys. Thought I’d just start off with some quick reviews! I apologize for the quality for these pictures, they’re mostly taken from my phone (I use an iPhone 5 now, but some are from my old crappy Sony Ericsson haha. I’ll most likely continue to use my iPhone for future restaurant shots too, until I stir up the courage to whip out my DSLR everywhere I eat. :P) I’ll be posting Part 2 and 3 of this little mini “series” soon, but please stay tuned for more in depth, detailed reviews in the future as I try out new places. (:

Part 1: Hi Genki, Capstone Tea & Fondue, Platform 7, Potter’s Garden BBQ, Chipotle Mexican Grill

Hi Genki

Hi Genki is one of my favourite restaurants ever! Unlike a typical Japanese sushi restaurant, Hi Genki serves more homestyle cooking dishes, with things like bento boxes, dons, udon.. I always feel so at home eating here and the food is never disappointing. I’ve tried quite a few things from the menu, including their Genki box (which by the way, is always sold out, so go early!), grilled salmon (on one of the daily specials), yakitori donburi, and appetizers like the green salad, mini udon, agedashi tofu, assorted tempera, and I also had the banana tempura for dessert once. Sort of a hidden gem, located in the Nikkei Place, a senior home. But don’t be mistaken, it’s still super busy during the dinner hours. (I’m not too sure about lunch.) Definitely give this place a go if you’re wanting some cozy, “Grandma’s cooking.” (That’s what I’ve seen other bloggers refer it to, and I totally agree.)

Capstone Tea & Fondue (Robson St.)

I’ve been to Capstone in the Robson location three times already, once for fondue and twice for the afternoon tea sets (yup, all Groupons!). The food is alright, nothing out of the ordinary.. very beautiful presentation though. What I really do love is the atmosphere there. It’s a great place to go to if you want to catch up with your friends, or even for a date *winkwink*. Anyways. The waiters are super engaging, and since with Groupon you’d have to make reservations, the food comes out pretty quickly too. However, I definitely wouldn’t pay full price for the food. I would say, just keep an eye out for the Groupons/ other discounts!

Platform 7

I’ve only been here once but I’m so wanting to go back! Platform 7 has such a unique interior, that’s designed to resemble an old Euoprean style train station.. super cool. The staff were very friendly, and the coffee (latte) and sweet (raspberry cheesecake muffin) I had were delicious too of course.

Potter’s Garden BBQ (Kingsway)

Potter’s Garden is probably my favourite Korean restaurant around my area, and I’ve been here quite often. Korean restaurants always give out these little appetizers called banchan, with stuff like kimchi, bean sprouts, braised potatoes, and seaweed salad– and this place is no exception. In fact, they’re very generous and offer seconds at no extra cost. (I’ve been to several places where extra appetizers have additional charge..) Their seafood pancake (haemul pajeon) is scrumptious, and I’ve also had some other typical dishes there, like as the bibimbap, japchae, tofu soup (sundubu jjigae)- they’re all pretty good. I have yet to try their BBQ, time to round up some friends!

Chipotle Mexican Grill

Okay.. Chipotle was on my summer bucket list and seriously. I fell in love. I got the carnita bowl with basically everything– the meat was very well seasoned, and the rice, bean, corn, salsa and veggies all had great flavor together. The portion was huge! I went with a friend and we were originally planning for desserts after.. well that didn’t happen. We both agreed to just share a bowl next time. It’s good that Chipotle’s kinda far from where I live.. because otherwise, I would be pretty broke. (Metro is opening a new location soon, which will be a problem for my wallet.)
